The Perils of the Riverdale Cave
Becky grew apprehensive.
Becky’s heart beat accelerated like a marathon runners would as she glanced around hopefully trying to find the group that she and Tom was with, (even when she doubted herself). Curiously, Tom on the other hand traversed deeper into the clouds of darkness that concealed the majority of the cave. Becky insisted:
“Tom! Instead of wandering about why don’t you try and help me”.
Loyally Tom dozed back to Becky and pealed his eyes around for their group. Unsuccessful, the children ventured into the darkness until they were completely shrouded by it. Tom and Becky held each other’s hand firmly while their other hands groped around trying to guide their way through the maze of darkness. Suddenly beams of light punctured the darkness and Becky knew that they had managed to pass through; the two children trudged forwards far enough for the darkness to slip back into the crevices of the cave’s wall. Becky glued her ears to the air and could hear the indistinct pattern of thuds heading towards them. Without blurting out the news to Tom, Becky bolted in the direction of the sounds as Tom tried his best to keep up. The thuds started to ascend in noise as the echoes grew louder. But as their hopes raised they were perplexed to see nothing but alarmed to see the cave’s wall slowly compress and disintegrate into a mixture of stone and mud that was dumped onto the floor of the cave.
Panic-stricken Tom and Becky jolted cluelessly through the cave and ended up at a dead end. As their hope slipped away they saw light above them, a light that lead to the surface. Without wasting any time Tom scrambled onto Becky’s shoulders and heaved himself through the hole in the cave’s ceiling. Time was running out as the mud and stone piled up to where they were and continued to develop;
Tom – who was already on the surface now, reached his hand out to Becky who bounded up her hand with his. Tom tugged and tugged but no matter how hard he tried he was always restrained and as time ran out they eventually ran out of hope. Suddenly Tom heard chattering from behind him, it was his group-mates but he had no time to talk with them. But as Tom turned around to pull out Becky out it was to late the cave had eaten her up into its remnants but Becky’s hands were still in sight. Tom stood up on both his legs and hauled Becky out (who was now craving for oxygen and looked as if she was about to faint).
Tom fell back onto the ground exhausted taking deep breaths to calm himself down whilst proud of himself - It was the first time he had actually saved someone.
