Dingy Street

Hiding beneath the light shadows lurked creeping across the chipped bricks. And staring into the eyes of their yellow enemy, it shot blinding glares back at them, every move they made the silver guardian of the street forced them out with its white spurs slashing at them with its golden sword. Withering away with its remnants the shadows crouched beneath the archway glancing from behind the pillars as they sunk into the surface, weaving through the water and readying to pounce onto its prey.

Hastily retreating back to their home- the gleaming, black hood that hung onto the sky slowly slipping of, they rushed to. The remaining shadows hid, some wrapped around the pillars like an invisible coat, some spread out like a black sheet under the puddles, some slithered through the darkness of the bins making their way through its abysmal tangle. The rest were torn apart by the destructive heavenly light, sent out where the giant, floating headlamp would forgive them of their sins, shaving them of the darkness that coiled around their hearts.

Towering above the street the building shone its lights glimpsing at it as the blue poles that radiated from its windows dug into the street’s grounds feeding its light to the people who were unable to see.

Jackets clamped from their waist to head, shoes that simply dissolved into the ground as if their was nothing their, like coal made figurines cuddling against the walls for warmth-people grouped together in isolation with the shadows that reflected the dismay that battered their hearts and pumped through their veins. Their only friends were the lights that exposed their shadows of misery restoring their only source of vision.

Disgust emanated from every crook and cranny of the street, evil shied beneath the light traipsing to consume their next victim stripping them of their happiness polishing them with a darkening glaze. Roaring its influence into the street in its violent manner the melancholy sobbing of the street resonated through the air.
